The Batu MP says he never instructed any of his team members to resort to giving out ‘tokens’ to secure votes.

In a viral video, a woman could be heard saying RM100 in ‘duit raya’ would be distributed to Batu PKR members before Aidilfitri and a further RM100 would be given on polling day.

PETALING JAYA: Batu MP P Prabakaran has denied distributing cash to PKR members voting in the Batu divisional election ahead of polling day on April 19.

Prabakaran said he received a video circulating online which alleged that RM100 in cash was being handed out to PKR members at a recent event held by the Batu division.

“I deny any such act as I did not instruct my team members to do such a thing.

“Nevertheless, I am fully prepared to cooperate with the party’s election committee to facilitate further investigations,” he said in a statement.

The incumbent Batu PKR chief said the video claimed he would be distributing the “tokens” at a breaking-fast event and on polling day.

However, he contended that he did not hold such an event and that it was never in the schedule for him and his election running mates.

Prabakaran is hoping to defend his post as Batu PKR chief, with the MP set to be challenged by lawyer and former student activist Asheeq Ali.

In a viral video, a woman could be heard saying that RM100 in “duit raya” would be distributed to Batu PKR members at a breaking-fast event the week before Aidilfitri.

She then said that a further RM100 would be given out on the division’s polling day after members have cast their ballots.

“If we win, there’ll be a jackpot, don’t worry,” she could be heard saying.

The woman in the video is allegedly part of Prabakaran’s team running in the divisional election.

PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa reminded party members to follow the proper process when lodging complaints related to the party polls.

“If there are any allegations of misconduct related to the election, members must use the appropriate channels to file a complaint,” she told FMT.
