The Speedtest Global Index report for September 2023 has been released by Ookla, indicating that the Philippines' internet rank has moved six spots down in Fixed Broadband and increased five positions in Mobile.
The country ranked 56th globally in the Fixed Broadband category, recording an average median download speed of 83.09 Mbps. The average upload speed was recorded at 79.42 Mbps, and the average latency was 5 ms.
In the Mobile category, the Philippines ranked 86th, listing an average of 26.36 Mbps download speed. The average upload speed and latency were registered at 6.35 Mbps and 23 ms, respectively.
Compared to the August 2023 charts, the performance of the internet in the country saw a slight increase in Mobile and a big drop in Fixed Broadband.
Regarding global median speeds, the average download speed for Fixed Broadband is 85.31 Mbps, while the average for Mobile is 47.82 Mbps.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) earned the fastest mobile internet speed worldwide, with an average of 211.58 Mbps. Meanwhile, Hong Kong (SAR) dominated the fixed broadband category, recording an average download speed of 265.17 Mbps.
The Speedtest Global Index for September 2023 includes 141 countries for Mobile and 181 for Fixed Broadband.
Meanwhile, Ookla's Q3 Internet Performance Report revealed that Smart is still the fastest mobile operator in the Philippines.
During Q3 2023, Smart delivered the fastest median download speed of 35.56 Mbps, which is a slight improvement from the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, its competitors, Globe and DITO, retained their download speeds at 22.42 Mbps and 19.53 Mbps, respectively.
Moreover, Apple devices remained dominant in terms of median download speeds, with 47.10 Mbps, followed by Samsung at 33.77 Mbps and Xiaomi at 29.18 Mbps.
