Asian Games 2023: No medal for PH esports team Sibol

Despite their valiant effort, the Philippines esports team Sibol went home with no medals at the Asian Games 2023. This is after the country's representatives for Dota 2, PUBG Mobile, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Street Fighter V, EA Sports FC Online, and Arena of Valor failed to reach the medal rounds in their respective matches.

Sibol's Dota 2 team is bannered by Roi "Enryu" Ladines, Bryle "cml" Alvizo, Eljohn "Akashi" Andales, Marvin "Boomy" Rushton, Mc Nicholson "Mac" Villanueva, and Djardel "DJ" Mampusti. Their coach is Mark Angelo Magallanes. The squad failed to make it to the playoffs after losing a crucial BO1 match to Kyrgyzstan in Group A.

The Sibol lineup for PUBG Mobile/Peacekeeper Elite (Asian Games version) is composed of Abdul Barrientos Barode, Jon Michael Ross Cabig, Francis Carl Fusingan, Robin Gurung, Alen Dale Origenes, and Florenz Anthony Taleon. The team finished 4th place in the Elimination Groups against Korea, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the Sibol roster for Dream Three Kingdoms 2 is comprised of Robert Neil De Guzman, John Agustin Karl To, Mark Adrian Jison, Shin Boo Ponferrada, Manjean Faldas, and Caisam Yvez Figueroa Nopueto, who are all well-known shoutcasters in Mobile Legends. The team was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Hong Kong in the quarterfinals.

For the fighting game Street Fighter V, the representatives of Sibol are Ross Jhan Villarin and Donald Gimperoso, who both failed to enter the medal rounds. They lost their last match against Thailand.

The representatives of Sibol for EA Sports FC Online are Jorrel Aristorenas and Rad Novales, both of whom failed to advance in the competition. They suffered a defeat in their last match against India.

Sibol team for Arena of Valor (Asian Games version) is bannered by Cedrik Santos, Christian Villegas, Miguel Klarenz Banaag, Alfonso Marcus Valmores, Dragon Hart Dajao, Eleazar Salle, and Maynard Limon. The squad suffered an early exit from the competition after falling to Thailand in a BO1 match.

Notably, Sibol's League of Legends team withdrew from the tournament, missing out on the chance to compete.

Esports, short for electronic sports, made its debut as an official medal sport at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. In Asian Games 2018, esports was categorized as a demo sport.
