Everything depends on this game; it is without any doubt the game of the season. It's the defining game of the season; you can bet everything on the final day's outcomes, but everything depends on what happens at Tottenham on Tuesday night.
Arsenal is waiting in the wings to have it in their hands again. Tottenham saw Liverpool lose a two-goal lead on Monday, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s side with a slim chance of making it to the Champions League, but it’s still possible.
Although Manchester City's task appears straightforward when considering form, pedigree, and antecedents, their record at Tottenham's new home isn't particularly impressive. However, the context is completely different this time.
A win for the reigning champions at Tottenham all but guarantees their fourth title on the bounce, a record no one has ever achieved; it will be their sixth title in seven years. Someone must stop them before they get the rights to rename the competition.
Postecoglou isn’t having the side talk: “So you think the majority of our fans are going to want us to not win tomorrow night? I don’t see it that way. We’ve got a game of football to win. What do you think is going to happen? What do you think we are going to do as a team, or any team on this planet?
“We’re just going to try and win. It’s a simple and basic premise. Now, how does that affect people's feelings? I'm not overly concerned, nor do I care much." The Australian gaffer is angry; some fans would rather the club lose than do Arsenal a favor, but does he have what it takes to stop City?
Four losses on the bounce before the narrow win over Burnley at the weekend doesn’t inspire confidence, but the hope is in the fact that Manchester City is yet to score a goal away at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which inspires hope.
Manchester City has a fit squad; they’re getting goals from everywhere; they will give it everything they have on Tuesday night, and, except you’re an Arsenal fan, you should be asking yourself how many goals there are and not a doubt over the victory for the visitors.
Whatever happens here decides the season. On the final day of the season, Arsenal and Manchester City will both defeat their opponents; will Tottenham do their North London rivals a favor by winning the league title on Tuesday night?
