HyperOS, the successor to Xiaomi's MIUI skin, is set to launch on the Xiaomi 14 series. Screenshots of the new UI were also leaked on Weibo. Check out more details below.

HyperOS confirmed to replace MIUI software

MIUI (pronounced Me You I) has been around for 13 years with its smartphones since the release of the first MIUI on August 13, 2010, and it is gradually being replaced by HyperOS. The latest version of MIUI available is MIUI 14.

In a Twitter/X post, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced the brand's next operating system:
Today marks a historic moment. After years of collective work, our new operating system, #XiaomiHyperOS, is set to make its official debut on #Xiaomi14Series.

The Xiaomi 14 series is expected to launch in China later this year, followed by a global release in the early weeks of 2024.

HyperOS, an Android Open Source Project, will merge with Xiaomi's IoT platform, Vela.

Lei Jun recently shared a post on Weibo, where he revealed that the new operating system would put "people in the center of an ecosystem" and would allow them to connect with other people, cars, and homes. His team, which started with just "a few engineers," has grown into a massive company with a software workforce of about 5,000 people.

When the world of IoT (Internet of Things) first started to take shape in 2014, work on Xiaomi HyperOS began. The first steps were taken by the company in 2017, and then development began on a new ecosystem for devices and apps.

Xiaomi HyperOS beta - screenshots

Xiaomi is anticipated to expand the range of customization choices available for the lock screen, such as new types of templates, font and widget options, clock, and more detailed wallpaper customization.

Compared to MIUI 14, the control center has been given a more streamlined appearance. The app icons look like the ones on MIUI 14. Please keep in mind that these look like extremely preliminary HyperOS beta updates, and Xiaomi may change how they look before the final version comes out.
