GCash services now up, adds enhanced security measures

GCash has fully restored its services after its widespread outage on October 9, 2023. Along with this, it implemented new enhanced security measures.

In a statement, GCash said that they have been "continuously rolling out safety and security measures to prevent unsecured devices from accessing the app."

The fintech company explained that while implementing the new enhanced security measures, "the [GCash] app remained operational, but some customers may have experienced intermittent access to selected services."

The company added that as of October 9, 2023, 7 PM, "the intermittent issues have been addressed and all affected services are accessible."

GCash noted that the accounts and funds of their customers remain secure.

It cited that "the latest security deployment is part of ongoing enhancements to ensure the safest and most secure experience" for its users.

GCash advised its users to go to the GCash Help Center at https://help.gcash.com and talk to Gigi for any concerns. It also reminds them to never share their MPIN and One-time PIN (OTP) with anyone. GCash said it will never send emails or messages with links nor reach out to customers through calls and other messaging platforms.

To recall, on October 9, 2023, some GCash users reported issues sending cash and logging in via the app around noon.

Reports of GCash being inaccessible peaked at around noontime on Monday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.ph. The reports started rising as early as 5 AM.
