
No more Dota 2 teams with Filipino players advancing at The International 2023 (TI 2023), the game's biggest tournament. Entity, Shopify Rebellion, TSM, and Team SMG bowed out of contention.
Here are the Pinoy players included in the rosters of the abovementioned Dota 2 teams:
- Entity - Kim "Gabbi" Villafuerte Santos
- Shopify Rebellion - Abed Yusop
- TSM - Jonathan "Bryle" De Guia Santos (Filipino born in Canada)
- Team SMG - Jaunuel Arcilla
From the most recent match, Gabbi and his team Entity were crushed by Virtus Pro, 0-2, in the Lower Bracket Round 2 on October 23, 2023. Earlier, the team defeated defending champions Tundra Esports to remain in the tournament, 2-0.
The Europe-based squad Entity earned USD 61,651 (roughly PHP 3.5 million) in cash prizes and settled for 9th-12th place.
Meanwhile, Bryle and TSM succumbed to nouns 0-2 in the Lower Bracket Round 2. The American esports organization exited the competition, taking home USD 61,651 (roughly PHP 3.5 million) in consolation and securing a 9th-12th place.
Cavite-born Dota 2 player Abed Yusop and his team, Shopify Rebellion, exited the TI 12 tournament after losing to team TSM, 0-2, on October 22, 2023. The Canadian squad received USD 46,315 (around PHP 2.6 million) in consolation and settled for 13th-16th place.
For those unaware, Abed has been a part of several Filipino teams, such as MSI-EvoGT and Execration, in the past.
Jaunuel and Team SMG bowed out of the tournament early, scoring 2-6 in the group stage (Group A). The Southeast Asian team bagged USD 30,877 (around PHP 1.7 million) in consolation and placed 17th-20th.
Last year, Fnatic, Evil Geniuses (EG), and Boom Esports made it to the playoffs of TI11, but they failed to advance further in the competition.
