This, These, That, and Those
This, these, that, dan those merupakan salah
satu jenis determiner atau kata penentu untuk merujuk suatu noun (nomina; kata
benda). Keempat kata tersebut mungkin terdengar mirip dan pastinya telah
familier di telinga kita. Namun, apakah kita benar-benar mengetahui perbedaan
dan dapat menggunakan kata-kata tersebut secara benar dalam kaidah berbahasa
Inggris?
Untuk lebih memahami perbedaan dan penggunaan
dari keempat kata tersebut, mari kita simak penjelasannya berikut ini.
This
THIS digunakan untuk merujuk pada sebuah
benda (tunggal), yang secara fisik pun benda tersebut terletak tidak jauh dari
si penunjuk. Bila diterjemahkan, this dapat berarti “ini”.
Contoh:
·
This glass is empty.
·
I want to buy this How much is it?
·
I hate this assignment so much.
·
Mom asked me to develop this picture so she
could frame it and put it on her office desk.
·
This five-star hotel is very expensive.

These
THESE digunakan untuk merujuk pada benda yang
jumlahnya lebih dari satu. Mudahnya, kita bisa menganggap bahwa these merupakan
bentuk jamak dari this.

Please, help me finish them.
·
These books are rare and very expensive.
·
Danny said he’s going to take care these

It’s impossible to find a good babysitter

That
THAT digunakan untuk merujuk pada sebuah
benda (tunggal), yang secara fisik pun benda tersebut terletak jauh dari si
penunjuk. Bila diterjemahkan, that dapat berarti “itu”.

people say it’s haunted.
·
I can’t believe you let that thief escape.
·
